I’m a little jaded today after a lovely night with friends for a roast dinner, drinking some lovely red wines, then watching the All Blacks play the Wallabies. As the game was in Sydney and because we had MySky available, we didn’t actually start watching the game until around 10.30pm so it was a late night!
Four years ago we went to Central for my 40th birthday and had a week of wine tasting. My friend had bought a bottle of Robert the Bruce, and put it in her “wine cellar” (cupboard). Although she lost a lot of wine with the earthquakes, this one survived and we’ve been meaning to have it this year. She decided it was about time we broke it open and it was soooo good – worth the cellaring. In the end the four of us managed to get through 3 bottles of red wine over the evening, and finished with a port to celebrate the rugby win!
With today dawning grey and miserable with heavy drizzle it’s a day to stay inside, read the papers and hunker down. As mentioned I’m slightly jaded – more from tiredness than anything. I decided I needed something a little uplifting in my diet today, so I have made Carrot & Coriander Soup. My usual Carrot soup is one with Cashew Nuts, but I have a lovely crop of coriander in the garden so it was time to get wet, harvest a bunch and try a new recipe. There’s something about soup – any soup – that feels healing, healthy and on a cold day, hearty!
When it’s this colour, who can argue with that?
